At the start it feels depressing but then turns upbeat and then dies back down again. It feels like you want to sway along with the song. The performer's body movement suited the song, by using jumpy movements in time with the music, to complement it. The melody is also jumpy almost moving up and down in time with the performer's body, it goes up and down throughout the piece. The tempo varies between a moderate and fast speed. Dynamics are that of sudden changes.
The performance communicates meaning by being played by just a piano with no accompaniments and by the way the performer is playing, in a gentle and elegant style. It sounds like a sad and lonely song. The bit in the introduction repeats itself a few times.
Für Elise communicates meaning by having a soft dynamic in it so it calms the audience when they listen to it. The body language of the performer is calm so when he performs the viewers already know that he is ready for it and how he acts is another way they know he is prepared and doesn’t think he will stuff up in it. The rhythm of the song is sort of repetitive and predictable but at the same time it can be surprising when it has a rapid change from slow to fast in the Tempo.
This piece of music has a warm, lonely, melancholy feel to it, yet towards the middle section it gets quite jumpy, then it transitions back to it’s warm, gloomy feel. The body language that the pianist shows us that he is moving with the feel of music, doesn’t look too awkward in his position, he seems to be in the zone of his piano playing, and shouldn’t be disturbed.
The performer communicated meaning through the way he played. His hands were very graceful when the song was graceful. His hands followed the key and textures of the song. He followed most of the 11 elements and did really well as performer. The way he preformed showed his meaning.
I think this performance communicates meaning by putting in what he wanted. His song selection was fitting with his body language. Soft, slow movements and a lot of emotion. He didn’t sound like he was attacking the keys, just playing. I think if he had of played any different song, it wouldn’t have fitted the body language. It was unique and that’s how he intrigued people. The melody starting off high and then slowly descending added to the performance. It had an ABA format, starting off, and finishing, with the same progression, which made you feel familiar with the song. This piece makes all the 11 elements fit in with each other and this performer has pulled it off really well!
It communicates meaning by going up and down in pitch with repetitive and changes in the tempo of the music and he was moving with the music with the music and his hands moved very fast through out the piece the Harmony was continually changing from time to time depending on what the melody was during the piece.
This song has a gloomy feeling, yet, at the same it seems to calm me, the player puts lots of emotion in his playing, and attempts the dynamics with a calm attitude. The song moves on and gradually gets faster and a bit higher. With this is adds in a better feeling or mood, and kind of gets a bit happier, it then returns to the main pattern, this is because this song solely follows a classic ABA pattern. The pitch varies from part to part; around the middle it raises to its highest point, and then jumps back to the starting part .It is a wonderful performance with much soul put into it.
This performance communicates meaning through the body language of the performer. Throughout the whole piece he looks completely immersed in the music, with his eyes being closed occasionally, and the way that he is playing the piano. His fingers were not just playing the music, but also conveying a meaning of elegance and his familiarity with the piece. The performer also communicates meaning through his playing by making sure the dynamics, rhythm and tempo are all pronounced and made clear, adding extra meaning to the piece. This is effective in making sure that the audience has a clear understanding of the piece, and what the performer is trying to convey. Other elements are used all throughout the piece to communicate the meaning. One is form. This is used to show different emotions and bring different responses from the audience right through the performance. The piece goes from a more solemn section of the song, to a more cheerful, light-hearted section, back to the well-known section from the start. This is one way of showing different scenarios, or emotions, by changing the direction the music is going in completely.
The Musician in this video uses many musical elements to communicate meaning and feeling. The dynamics in the piece are aligned with the phrases and they rise and fall through the beginning and end of the phrases. The musician himself also moves very musically and he sways forward and back with the music and leans into the notes to help him play more musically. The phrases in the piece are very long and he emphasizes this by raising his hands at the intersection of the phrases. The pitch of the piece rises and falls frequently giving a mixed feel of happy and sad.
From the very beginning of the piece, the tempo is very steady and quite moderate and the dynamics are even, in a quite soft piano or mezzo piano, the melody is also very sweet and gentle. The phrases are quite long, but are very repetitive, although begin to change slightly throughout the sections. When I listen to this piece, I feel quite at peace and melancholy as the music continues in the first section. After the repetition continues for a lengthy amount of time, it could even be seen as a little bit creepy because it continues to repeat little sections in the right hand, with the left hand playing a continual repetitive phrase to complement the treble.
When we pass into the second section, the B in ternary form, it progresses into a faster, louder and more joyful and energetic section, changing the mood from the first section. When I listen to this part of the song, I imagine a mountain or hill landscape, which then progresses into a quicker and more frantic tempo, changing that vision, and progressing it dramatically into the next section, which is repeated.
Finally, with the coda, the notes drop down mainly into the bass, making the piece seem dark and dramatic and almost scary and angry. It is extremely dramatic because of the accented notes and minor pattern, which lowers it quite dramatically into the bass, notes. With the single steps down from the treble to the bass, it adds an eerie feeling to the piece, before returning to the first section, which I know quite well. Because of this, the piece gives me a familiar feeling which can be quite comforting, although that changes slightly in the middle section, as that part is not quite as well known.
This piece communicates meaning visually by the expression and movement of the pianist, as he plays it seemingly so carefully and almost full of love, like the piano might break if he plays the notes too hard. His expression communicates extreme concentration, but also a small amount of sadness mixed with contentment, with his eyes closed throughout most of the playing, he is able to instinctually play the notes in a way that also demonstrates great familiarity.
This melancholy, although familiar and content piece communicates it’s meaning through all of these elements, but also through the instrumentation, as the piano is a lone instrument, making us feel like we are on our own and all these troubles are falling on us alone. The elements are all widely changing throughout the piece, after a seemingly repetitive and predictable first section. The simple quality of this beginning section also helps to make us feel the contentment, but also the fear, sadness and general alone feeling it’s able to generate. The changes in the music make the meaning change, from sad to cheerful and loud, back to sad and then to the dark and menacing small section played in the bass of the piano.
Für Elise communicates meaning simply through all of these elements, but also very cleverly through the name, which translates to ‘For Elise’. This piece is obviously written for a lover or ex lover with the sweet melody created with the treble notes, and then the sadness or fighting in the deep bass sections spoken about earlier. This piece is amazingly descriptive, and easily communicates the changes in feeling and emotions that Ludwig Van Beethoven was obviously feeling in that time.
The piece of music was very melodic and even though I have heard it many times before, it has a very beautiful sound to it and it has a very strong tannery formation as it sad of with a depressing sound to it as it starts but once it gets to section B, it really starts to pick up and it has a much sunnier sound to it. The first section of the piece has a very strong melody to it and I think that the song is written for a girl as it says in the title for the song. When I listen to the song, I think that I am in a field of grass in the summer with the girl of my dreams.
It has a very recognizable melody at the start that makes you engaged and feel and share in the emotion of the song. As the song progresses the mood changes into a more happy warm feeling.
Für Elise uses strong flowing, chords to convey the author’s feelings for Elise. He is melancholy and wants her to notice him. He then switches key from minor to major, with a very smooth, yet sudden transition. The major pat is his expresses his joy and happiness and admiration for Elise. This structure repeats, and next, there is a section of strong, staccato chords that convey his anger, probably because Elise has left him it then fades down softly into the minor key phrasing, but with more elaboration. The melody hand scales up and down the length of the piano. The instrumentation is only the piano, but it plays both the harmony with the right hand, and the bass with the left hand.
This piece is about the emotions expressed through his body language. It was to express how he feels. The way he communicated through the song with his posture, facial expressions, movement to the melody, soft dynamics and the tempo was slow. The phrasings are long and clear. The pitch varied. The meaning was mesmerising, dramatic, warming, and peaceful.
This song communicates the feelings of a man who’s just lost a friend (wife, girlfriend, etc.) and is grieving over her death. The feeling of the song at first is very mellow and sorrowful. The tempo is reasonably fast but the melody is downbeat. The middle section of the piece conveys to me more happiness but still sorrow mixed with it, this conveys to me remembrance of happy times, but still sad that they’ve ended. The melody is slightly more upbeat but still conveys a feeling of sadness, which I believe to be the key. In the third section it goes to the same melody as the start of the piece and to the feeling of sorrow.
